On display until 21 January 2024. The Painter and His Models, an exhibition of Renoir’s works in Budapest’s Museum of Fine Arts, has attracted some 200,000 visitors since opening in September, the museum said.

National Gallery’s Picasso Exhibition Attracts Over 200,000

Over 200,000 people visited an exhibition of Pablo Picasso’s works, which closed on August 28 at the Hungarian National Gallery, the museum said. The four-month display, co-organised by the Musée National Picasso in Paris, has been the largest ever such exhibition in Hungary with some 100 paintings, drawings and sculpture by the artist, the Gallery said in its statement.

The Hungarian National Gallery presents the first large-scale exhibition on the work of Amadeo Modigliani (1884-1920) - now on until 2 October. The exhibition features more than 80 artworks from museums and private collections all around the world.

The word nude entered the English language from Latin, originally in the sense of "plain, explicit". In art, the term first denoted representations of clothed or half-naked models with the intention of studying their figures, postures and gestures, before it started to refer to the naked human body. Before the Renaissance, nude representation was usually reserved for symbolic messages.

"The significance of the 80.000-piece graphic collection of the Hungarian National Gallery is a little-known fact, since the paper-based objects are very sensitive and cannot be part of the permanent exhibition. That is why the paintings and sculptures of the 20th century permanent exhibition are complemented with our graphic cabinets of a changing thematic concept twice a year.
